Brooklin Smart Kitchen
Smart design choices and high-tech touches update this client’s main floor, with a cutting-edge kitchen that’s ready to entertain.
By removing a structural wall, we were able to open up this U-shaped kitchen. We built a large island with seating on 3 sides, perfect for these clients who love to entertain. One of our favourite features of the island was the base, which was custom-designed to look like shiplap for a textural twist in this transitional space.
The focal point of this kitchen was definitely the large range and vent hood. To match the scale, we designed large, custom cabinets and selected substantial brushed nickel hardware that still had a sleek and minimal look.
This main floor was designed to play with the push and pull of dark and light contrast, like the dark grey island and countertops against the white cabinets and backsplash. A modern twist on the brick wall, we utilized matte beveled subway tile in a large, linear shape to create depth and dimension. A white Caesarstone quartz island top with dark grey veining tied everything together.

These tech-savvy clients wanted lots of smart home features in their space, so we integrated a smart oven and range top and mobile and voice-activated pot lights, leaving room between the cabinets and ceiling so they could shine. We also designed a kitchen drawer with outlets as a spot to charge and store devices while keeping them out of sight.
Outside the kitchen, we created a cozy corner oasis, complete with a Shaker style fireplace and reclaimed wood mantle for a subtly rustic flair. For our tech-loving clients, we used smart blinds that raise and lower on voice command.

The main floor’s cooler grey and white colour palette was carried into the family room, where we helped select a grey sectional and complementary accessories for the space.
On the stairs, we painted the risers white while staining the treads the same colour as the hardwood floors and swapped wooden pickets for wrought iron ones. Finally, we added a Shaker style post that mimicked the design of the fireplace.
In the end, we loved creating a cohesive and impactful design that uniquely suited our clients’ needs for their space.
